Markabygda Montessori School started up in Autumn 2004 and is a Year 1 to Year 7 school.

The school is situated in Levanger municipality, and is situated about 15 kilometres inland from Levanger. The school can take up to 80 pupils, and at present there are 57 pupils (school year 2010/2011).

The morning routine at our school starts with breakfast from around 0730 to 0830, where

pupils can have breakfast and spend some time listening to the radio, reading the local newspaper or just chatting. The first work period starts at 0830 and runs to about 1110.

After break, the afternoon period starts  at 1210 and the school day ends at 1340, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Thursdays, Year 1 to Year 4 have ‘Homework Help’ from 1250 to 1340.On Fridays the school day ends at 1315.

Year 5 to 7 go on an outing every Wednesday. Here the pupils can take advantage of the wonderful surroundings, with both mountains and coast just a short ride away. School subjects are integrated into the ‘Day Out’.

Year 2 to 4 have their ‘Day Out’ every Thursday and Year 1 have their ‘Day Out’ on Fridays.

The school follows the national curriculm ‘ Knowledge Promotion’ ( in Norwegian Kunnskapsløftet).

The school enjoys close contacts with the local community, and the school arranges Open Café Days two to three times each term.

The school board consists of a chairman, vice-chairman and four representatives.

Parents are also an important element for the school. Without their help it would be more difficult to arrange trips, organize Easter, Christmas and Summer end-of term arrangements. Parents are always eager to lend a hand in the up-keep of the school.
